With the increase in aquaculture activity, the industry is facing several challenges in pond environment and water quality. The application of beneficial bacteria in to pond, not only helps the pond water and soil quality, but also associated with gut health of shrimp that are reared in the pond.

The key factor of successful aquaculture is the interaction between beneficial bacteria in the pond, gut flora and immune system of shrimp. While natural eco systems are balanced, farming system favours the growth of BOTH beneficial and pathogenic organisms with its rich source of nutrient waste generated during culture period.

The accumulation and degradation of waste in pond leads to depletion of DO and production of toxic gases such as Ammonia, Nitrites and Hydrogen Sulphide. All these factors contribute to the contamination of water and soil, creating favourable conditions of pathogens, ultimately affecting shrimp health. Under such conditions shrimp always live in stress, could result in poor growth and are susceptible to diseases.
